Dan, Lucy, Lanyon & Ewon's Newsletter - August 2006
  family
After the series “PAY OFF YOUR MORTGAGE” we were overwhelmed with thousands of emails.

It was fantastic and I desperately wanted to respond to each one individually.

We even had a postcard addressed to “Dan, Lucy and the boys” that made it to us!

We also had hundreds of enquiries for hopods, so between responding to them, learning a new accounting package, teaching and spending time with the boys I have only managed to reply to about 100, not bad eh.

THANK YOU

I would like to thank you all for your support and advice. Your messages of goodwill and encouragement have made the `tough days’ easier and given us all a real boost.

And as much as I would love to answer each one personally, this takes me away from helping Dan with Hotpod production as his head gofer, administrative assistant and sales & marketing manager!

THE SOLUTION -

René’s answer to the problem was a monthly newsletter, to keep us in contact with like-minded people and giving you a behind-the scenes sneak preview of our progress..

THE PROGRAMME

When the programme went out we had lots of people ask us whether we managed to pay off our mortgage.

I was stopped in town by friend who said:

“Well - Did you do it?”

“No.” I replied

“Never mind.”

I explained that we had another year and that I thought that we were in with a chance.

Now every time I see them the first thing that they ask is about our progress.

It is quite a topic of conversation. Getting stopped in the street by complete strangers who know you from the telly has taken a bit of getting used to but we all quite enjoy it as everyone we meet is so lovely.

HOTPOD PUT ON BACK-BURNER
  hotpod001
Dan was not expecting the interest in Hotpods to be quite so great, he had to spend the first week turning the workshop into the HOTPOD factory.

That put the production of the actual pods back a week or so. We had teething problems with sourcing retired VW beetle engines. The local VW enthusiasts have definitely helped to save the day and we have now got a few sources for the retired cylinders etc. So if you know of anyone who refurbishes VW engines and could pass on our details that would be great.

TIMEKEEPING
  clock
Anyone who has ever been to Cornwall will know all about “Cornish-mean time” or `Dreckly’ as it’s known to us locals. This roughly equates to the Spanish mañana.

Anyone who has ever been to Cornwall will know all about “Cornish-mean time” or `Dreckly’ as it’s known to us locals. This roughly equates to the Spanish mañana To help Dan with his time keeping he has made himself a clock, with tea-breaks, home time and the all important Pasty o’clock. However, being on a financial diet still means he doesn’t normally get a pasty, he has leftovers instead. See clock---

WE GIRLS GET STRIPPING!

Needed to think of new and novel ideas to help keep Dan’s spirits up in the workshop. My plan was to get dirty! So last week we stripped-----engines. Don’t worry it was all good clean fun.
EVEN MOTHER NATURE IS ON OUR SIDE!
  beach
Not much surf recently, so we have not been too distracted.

We needed an incentive and decided that for each hotpod Dan makes, we could have a surf. We now have a few surfs in the “sand bank” and we`re all looking forward to getting in the sea again.

YOGA
  yoga
I am spending more time with Dan, helping him with the bookwork side of things so I have cut back on my weekly teaching programme. My surfers’ yoga class is as popular as ever and I still teach a few classes at the local leisure centre. I’d find it really difficult to give up yoga completely as I really enjoy teaching the classes and would miss seeing everyone. I have a few yoga holidays abroad planned in France, Spain and the Red Sea and I am pleased with the interest I have had so far but there are still places left if anyone’s interested.
THE BOYS
  Boys
Not teaching so much means that I am having more time at home with the boys, whilst Dan works a little later.

Ever enterprising Ewon is still making his Fimo models and made Dan a miniature Hotpod. He has sold a few to friends at school but is also hoping to get a few of them on sale in a local bead shop, which he’s really excited about.

Lanyon is out skating at the moment, he said he would say a few lines in the next newsletter

Thank you for your email and we will keep you updated with our progress.

Love,
